Comfort

“Comfort Kills”

Cotton is comfortable, but if you get soaked to your skin while wearing comfortable cotton on a very cold day you can get hypothermia and it can kill you.

Wool can be uncomfortable and itchy, but if you get soaked to your skin while wearing uncomfortable wool on a very cold day, wool will still keep you warm and can protect you from hypothermia and save you.

Psychologists and intercessors have both observed that much addiction (especially porn addiction) is comfort seeking behaviour.  We seek comfort rather than doing the hard work of healing deep wounds.

We employ various methods of self-comfort to cover our pain and frustration. This prolongs our suffering because we will not be healed by merely seeking comfort.

How can God comfort me when I am so busy comforting myself?

Responce

Pray out loud:

I reject the lie that I am responsible for comforting myself.

I forgive my mother for any way that she failed to adequately comfort me.

I forgive my father for any way that he failed to make my childhood safe and to give me a strong, positive identity.

I reject the lie that I am responsible for comforting myself.

I reject the lie that comfort will heal me.

Holy Spirit will you bring me the comfort that I need, and heal me?

Surrender yourself and your pain to the Holy Spirit.
